Pearl Jewelry
Pearls are timeless and classic. They can be worn for any occasion from a job interview to your wedding. Appropriate for both simple and elegant occasions, they always seem to be the perfect accessory. Be it traditional white pearls or exotic black or pink ones, pearls are an important staple for every woman's jewelry collection.
Pearls are the only gemstone created from a living organism. Starting as a grain of sand or grit, pearls develop when a marine mollusk builds a protective coat of nacre, or mother of pearl, around the irritant inside its shell. When the pearl is created by nature, it's called a "natural pearl". As pearls have become more in demand, man learned to assist nature by introducing the irritant into the shell and thus speeding nature along. Pearls created in this fashion are called "cultured pearls". Most jewelry stores stock cultured pearls as they are more prevalent and less expensive than natural ones. There is little difference in the appearance of a natural pearl from a cultured one.
As the birthstone for June and the accepted gift for both the Third and Thirtieth Wedding Anniversaries, pearls are a great choice to mark your special occasion.
