Silver Jewelry
As a precious metal, silver is highly valued because it is ductile (bends under stress), malleable (easily shaped), has a brilliant luster, and because it can take a high degree of polish. Jewelry is traditionally made from Sterling silver which is an alloy of 92.5 % silver with 7.5% copper.
Historically, silver has been linked with the moon, possibly because of its reflective color. Early Europeans considered it a symbol of purity and a cure for a variety of ailments. It was seen as an effective talisman to ward off vampires and werewolves and achieved infamy when Judas accepted a bribe of thirty pieces of silver to betray Jesus Christ to the Romans.
Today, silver is one of the most popular metals used in jewelry design. From highly elaborate, intricate pieces, to simple chain links, silver is versatile and timeless.
